What a great day to have acupuncture! Today so far has been a very stressful day. My stomach has been hurting for the past few days and I will be using my acupuncture treatment for both stomach pain relief and stress relief. Someone asked me today if I have lost weight, and although I'm against scales, I too have noticed that I've lost weight. The acupuncture treatments have suppressed my appetite and I'm so impressed because I've taken a three week hiatus from working out.
This treatment was a pretty great one. First off, there was rain and thunder going on outside which is unheard of for San Diego, so I was really enjoying just lying down and hearing the thunder. Since I went in for stomach pain she put some needles in my abdomen area and used moxa (short for moxibustion) to heat the needles in my abdomen area.
What is moxa?
Practitioners use moxa to warm regions and meridian points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of what we refer to as, "The good Stuff" ( blood and qi or energy). You can read more about moxa here.
Overall, I had a great treatment where I got to have a little nap, enjoy the sounds of nature outside and de-stress.
The day before this treatment I went back to the gym and my body was exhausted. My muscles weren't quite sore yet but my body was really craving a day in bed. Going into my treatment I was very excited because I wanted to just lay down and take a nap. Judy put needles in my abdomen area again to help aid my digestion especially since I had such a big lunch earlier that day. Overall, I was able to sleep very deeply and enjoyed my treatment. Maybe Acupuncture will help my muscles recover quicker so that I don't get sore! When I awoke from my treatment/nap I felt very energized and not groggy.
You can find my week three report next Friday, July 10th.
